Player Evaluations
Player evaluations consist of a series of standard drill sessions, along with a number of scrimmages.
The aim of the evaluation process is to ensure all players will be participating at a level that is appropriate for their ability which will enable them to enjoy the challenges and successes that come with playing a team sport.
At registration, players are assigned their initial skate date. Further skate times will be handed out after every ice session. Please ensure that you stop at the check in table to find out when your child will skate next. Each player will be provided with a color & numbered pennie at the first session, this is how the player is recognized throughout the evaluation process. Please ensure that you pickup a pennie at the beginning of each session and return pennie at the end of each session. Ensure your child is at the rink, checked in and ready to skate at their assigned times. Please take the time before evaluations skates begin to ensure equipment is ready, skates are sharpened, adjustments are made to equipment and ensure your child has a water bottle for breaks.
How the Process works
For the initial skate, players have been placed in three groups, based on where they finished the previous season. Players will have the opportunity to move up from their initial skate should the evaluators deem player(s) have the potential to compete at a higher level than the previous year. During the drill/scrimmage sessions, each player will be watched by a number of volunteer evaluators that will assess the players on various individual skills, work ethic, and team play. Each evaluator will follow the same formula and criteria when assessing players. The Clubs pride themselves on the effectiveness of this evaluation process.

Please ensure your child attends all sessions as combined scores for the sessions will be used to determine player placement.
Player’s are placed on each team based on the assessments from the evaluators. In some cases, a decision must be made as to the placement of a player by the evaluation committee. Following the evaluation sessions, coaches are selected for each team who, in turn, contact their players to notify them of their team assignment.
While the evaluation process can sometimes feel somewhat lengthy the goal is to form teams within 5 to 6 skates.
